Questions for Reflection and Discussion

Acts 28:1-16

Rome at Last

Background

Read Acts 27.  Write a brief summary of Paul’s trip to Rome.

Digging In

  1. Read Ac 28:1-6. How were Paul and his companions treated when they arrived on the island of Malta?
  2. Why did the islanders initially think Paul was a murderer?
  3. What caused them to change their minds?
  4. Read vss. 7-10. Who was Publius?  How did he treat Paul and his companions?
  5. What did Paul do to call attention to the power of God?
  6. How did the people respond to the healing of Publius’ father?
  7. Read vss. 11-16. Trace Paul’s journey on a map.
  8. How did the believers in Rome demonstrate their love for Paul?
  9. How do you think Paul felt about this show of kindness?
  10. How would you describe Paul’s living situation in Rome?

Getting Personal

  • Paul wrote to the church at Rome on his 3rd missionary journey. What did he say about his desire to visit them? (Rom 1:9-13; 15:23-24)
  • How did God confirm that desire? (Ac 23:11; 27:23-24)
  • Paul had to wait years for God’s promise to be fulfilled. Have you had an experience like this?
  • What helped you to trust God while you waited?
  • What can we learn from Paul’s example to help us faithfully persevere? (e.g., Ac 20:24; ch. 26; 27:25)
