Getting Started

Digging In

  1. Read ch. 1:1-2. What do these verses tell us about our identity?
  2. Read ch. 1:3-6. What do we learn here about our destiny?
  3. Read ch. 2:9-10. What does it mean that we are:
  • A chosen people
  • A royal priesthood
  • A holy nation
  • A people belonging to God
  1. For what purpose has God chosen us to belong to him?
  2. How does v. 10 give us a reason to declare God’s praises and live for his glory?
  3. What does Peter say about our identity in v. 11? In what sense are we aliens and strangers?
  4. How should this affect the way we live? (v. 11)
  5. What exhortation does he give in v. 12, and for what purpose?
  6. Read ch. 3:13-16. What are the 3 commands in v. 15?

Getting Personal

  • How can the great truths in this passage help us remain strong in times of opposition and persecution?
  • How can these truths help us become captured afresh by God’s good and gracious purposes for his redeemed people?
  • How can we declare his praises in our communication – our emails, texts and conversations?
  • In what ways are you living a good life among the pagans – a life that attracts people to Jesus Christ? (2:12)
  • How can these truths help us live as faithful exiles in America today, bringing honor to the Lord by what we say and do?
