Questions for Reflection and Discussion

Acts 26

From Darkness to Light

Background

Paul has given a defense before the crowd and the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem, and before Gov. Felix and then Gov. Festus in Caesarea.  His last address is before King Agrippa II.  Read the background and setting in Ac 25:13-27.

Digging In

  1. Why did Gov. Festus want Agrippa to hear Paul? (Ac 25:24-27)
  2. Read Ac 26:1-11. How does Paul describe his life before becoming a Christian?
  3. How does he describe his conversion? (vss. 12-15)
  4. List the key components of Paul’s commission. (vss. 16-18)
  5. Read 19-23. How did Paul demonstrate faithfulness in carrying out the commission he’d been given?
  6. Read v. 24. What was Festus’ response to Paul’s preaching?
  7. Read vss. 25-32. How did Paul seek to persuade King Agrippa?
  8. How did Agrippa deflect Paul’s question? (v. 28)
  9. How do these verses reveal Paul’s compassion for his hearers?
  10. How does this chapter help fulfill Luke’s purpose of showing that Christians were not a threat to the Roman Empire?

Getting Personal

  • Read ch. 26 again. How is Paul an example of 1 Pet 3:15-17?
  • How can we learn to share the gospel in a way that combines truth and grace?
  • In telling how we came to Christ, we sometimes make ourselves the center of attention. How do we keep the focus on Christ?
  • What have you learned about Paul’s ministry and message that you would like to apply to your own life? Make this a focus of prayer next week.
